Tips on restless leg syndrome natural treatments.

Natural and holistic treatments for Restless leg syndrome are constantly increasing with more and more research going into the disease. It is a disorder that for the most part affects pregnant women and is likely to persist in families. Those who suffer with Restless Leg Syndrome describe the ailment as the uncontrollable impulse to move their legs, which sometimes occurs in other parts of the body as well. While not always painful, the illness does have a negative influence on the sufferer's life as it is troublesome, tiresome, and uncontrollable, with the majority of sufferers having difficulty relaxing and sleeping. There are, however, a number of restless legs syndrome natural treatments accessible that sufferers can try, that aren't painful and normally don't cost a lot of money.

Prevention:

Restless leg syndrome is believed to be triggered by the lack of certain minerals in the body such as iron, magnesium and folate. It is also thought to be started by individual substances such as caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and prescription drugs. For that reason, researchers have recommended that sufferers try to ensure that their diet is high in iron (such as red meat), folate (such as green leafy vegetables) and magnesium, and limiting or eliminating their intake of alcohol and caffeine. For their for the own sake, smokers should also try and kick their habit, as even if it does not reduce the effects of their disorder, it will lead to a healthier and happier lifestyle long-term.

Yoga:

Alice Christensen, the founder and executive director of the American Yoga Association, recommends Yoga as a great way to handle restless legs as it can help to improve circulation. As well as this, Yoga can play a part in being a mental focus activity that many researchers believe can distract the mind to help delay or discourage the leg twitching. Yoga is also a relaxant, something which many sufferers of Restless Leg Syndrome can find difficult to do. But like any Restless Leg Syndrome natural treatment, Yoga is one that may or may not work for any particular sufferer, but can be worth the while in trying it not only for relief, but for general good health and well-being.

Homeopathy:

Homeopathy is Restless Leg Syndrome natural treatment that sufferers can try, recommended by Chris Meletis, N.D., a naturopathic physician and medicinal director at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. He recommends trying Tarentula hispanica 12C three times a day until improvement is noticed. For restless legs at night, he recommends Causticum 12C in similar doses. Homeopathy, like any treatment, can be a trial and error activity, so therefore if this does not work, there are other options to try, or to try in conjunction with so as to cover a wise spectrum of possible causes of the disorder.

Massage:

Massage could work as a natural treatment for Restless Leg Syndrome. This can be applied yourself, as suggested by Elliot Greene, past president of the American Massage Therapy Association. This is performed by placing the palm of your hand on the biggest part of your calf, with you fingers pointing towards your heel. Grip the muscle, and pull it as far from your leg as is comfortable. Put pressure on the muscle several times then let go. Repeat this for approximately five minutes before beginning on the other leg. The thighs can also have massage applied by basically stroking and take hold of them gently with both hands, moving from your knees upwards. This will help to provide relief and stop the twitching from taking place.

Hopefully the restless leg syndrome natural treatments listed above will help many of you who suffer from this condition.
